Exploring Southeast Asia: Seeking Sunsets and Tales
The way that travel rejuvenates your soul has an addictive quality. I ultimately decided to take the risk and purchased an airfare to the Southeast Asian region after months spent working nonstop; I had no specific plans, only a strong desire to try new things. I saw a dimension that was once teeming with flavor, color, commotion, and serenity.
Bangkok, Thailand, where I started my tour, is a city that equally attracts to all of your senses. Temples shimmer gold against the skyline, tuk-tuks fly by with a sort of wild appeal, and the air is filled with the aroma of sizzling street food.
With my heart full and my mouth burning, I ate a hot pad thai on a crowded street corner, gazed at the peace within Wat Pho, and strolled inside the magnificent palace in wonder.
I traveled north from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, which is a more laborious greener city surrounded by foggy mountains. Exploring Southeast Asia: Seeking Sunsets and Tales I spent a whole afternoon wandering around in its busy night markets and a morning feeding bananas to calm elephants in a sanctuary. A paper lantern, a gentle, luminous representation of wishes flying into the unknown, was lit and released into the sky on one of my most memorable evenings.
Next stop: Laos. Exploring Southeast Asia: Seeking Sunsets and Tales During a two-day long boat trip up the Mekong River, I crossed the border. There were only infinite green spaces and the type of quiet that allows your mind let travel; there were no upscale meals or Wi-Fi. Boasting its French colonial beauty, orange-robed monks strolled previous to dawn comes, and mystical waterfalls, Luang Prabang captured my heart.
Vietnam came next, and it was all I had expected and more: Exploring Southeast Asia: Seeking Sunsets and Tales the chaotic streets of Hanoi, where scooters appear to rule and regulations don’t seem to apply, backed by the serene splendor of Ha Long Bay, a place where limestone islands rise from emerald waters like ancient guardians. I felt as though I could remain forever after tasting strong Vietnamese coffee beside the lake.
I was humbled by Cambodia. It was truly a spiritual dawn in Angkor Wat. I had a feeling that I was following in the footprints of something greater than myself as I strolled amid those old ruins. I was reminded by the gracious, strong, and kind individuals I saw that travel is about greater than just cities. It’s also about people.
Every nation, city, and moment gave my journey—and me—an additional dimension. I learned how to trust my gut, accept the unexpected, and be at ease with ambiguity. I got alert and stopped rushing.
